The Summer Belonged to Us
Created to celebrate the summers when sunburns, mosquito bites, and sandy toes were the mark of a day well spent.
Some childhood memories never really fade.
My sister and I spent just one week at the beach each summer, but somehow managed to pack an entire season's worth of adventure into those seven days. We rode bikes until sunset, built sandcastles, boogie boarded, caught crabs off the dock, compared jellyfish stings, raced around on golf carts, and ended each day with sticky popsicles on the deck.
We never felt like we had enough time.
Maybe that's why we made every moment count.
Years later, my grandmother, Mimi, told me this was her favorite photograph of us. Seeing it through her eyes made me realize she wasn't just remembering a beach vacation.
She was remembering our childhood.
The Summer Belonged to Us is my way of preserving those carefree days that felt endless and the people who made them unforgettable.
