Some gifts become even more meaningful when they're deeply personal.
The Gambit was created as a gift for a family friend who adored her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. My mother knew how much these dogs meant to her and asked if I would create a portrait that celebrated her beloved companions.
Painted during physical therapy school in 2014, this piece reminds me how much joy can come from creating something uniquely personal. Long before Linen & Hue existed, I was discovering that the most meaningful paintings weren't simply about capturing a likeness—they were about celebrating the relationships we share with the animals we love.
The title, The Gambit, is a playful nod to the breed itself. Like a clever move in chess, it felt like the perfect name for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
