Sometimes healing arrives in the places we least expect.
One summer, during a particularly difficult season of my life, my Mimi suggested we spend the day visiting an Amish plant nursery in Central Pennsylvania. As we wandered through the greenhouses, I glanced out the back door and was met with a view that stopped me in my tracks.
Rolling fields stretched toward the mountains. Horses grazed quietly in the distance. The flowers swayed in an unusually crisp August breeze, and for the first time in months, everything felt still.
So did I.
Gardens had always been part of our family's story. My Mimi and her three daughters all shared an extraordinary gift for gardening. Some of my favorite memories were spent beside them—pulling weeds, dreaming about new flower beds, and listening as they enthusiastically shared everything their knowledge. Even if you knew nothing about plants, you couldn't help but be drawn into their joy.
Standing at that nursery, surrounded by the beauty they loved so deeply, I realized that peace has a way of taking root when we're connected to the people and places that shape us.
Rooted is a reminder that healing doesn't always arrive all at once. Sometimes it grows quietly, just like a garden, until one day you realize you're standing in the sunlight again.
