It Was Always You In The Yellow Jacket
Created to celebrate the places where love stories begin and the memories that help us find one another again.
Sometimes a single moment quietly changes everything.
This painting was commissioned by a daughter who wanted to celebrate her father exactly as she remembered him—healthy, adventurous, and skiing through the mountains in the bright yellow jacket that had become so unmistakably him.
But this mountain held a story that began long before she was born.
It was here that her parents first met.
Had they crossed a different trail that day, chosen another ski run, or missed each other entirely, an entirely different future might have unfolded. Instead, one ordinary winter day became the beginning of a love story that would eventually grow into a family.
Years later, after her father's passing, this same mountain became the place where she chose to celebrate her own wedding—a beautiful reminder that some places quietly hold generations of our most meaningful memories.
Her father was a proud Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket. He started his career as an aeronautical engineer and when the Cold War ended, he saw his fellow GT aeronautical engineers working as Santa Claus in the local mall. So, he made the switch to mechanical and civil engineering. And voila! He became a builder of all things (including their beautiful beach home in Cape Cod, MA).
Yet those who loved him remember far more than his accomplishments. They remember the man who loved being out on the water, who could always be convinced to turn up Shania Twain, who believed the thermostat should somehow survive a Boston winter set to fifty-five degrees, and who taught driving by swerving around potholes to save the brakes.
Most of all, they remember a husband and father whose greatest achievement was the life he built with the people he loved.
The title carries a quiet double meaning. It recalls the bright yellow ski jacket his family will always picture him wearing, while also honoring the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket he remained throughout his life. But perhaps, in another way, it reminds us of something even greater.
Sometimes the person who changes our lives forever is simply the one we happened to meet in the yellow jacket.
