His Little Shadows
Created to celebrate the little friends whose footsteps become part of the rhythm of home.
Some people leave a legacy not through recognition, but through the lives they quietly change.
I painted His Little Shadows as a gift for my former physical therapy program director upon his retirement. He chose to delay his retirement so he could graduate alongside our class—a gesture that perfectly reflected the kind of professor and mentor he had always been.
Before dedicating his life to physical therapy education, he served our country as a Vietnam veteran. He then spent decades investing in others, first through patient care and later by teaching generations of physical therapists that knowledge means little unless it is paired with compassion, integrity, and service.
His beloved dogs were never far from his side, faithfully following him wherever he went. Watching them trail behind him always seemed fitting. Just as they followed his footsteps with unwavering devotion, countless students had the privilege of following the example he set throughout his career.
His Little Shadows celebrates a life defined not by titles or accomplishments, but by quiet leadership, faithful companionship, and a lifelong commitment to serving others. The greatest legacies are rarely built in a single moment—they're found in the countless lives forever changed by one person who chose to lead with humility.
