Expecto Patronum

Long before there was a little girl sleeping by it, this painting already had a home.

When we designed our future nursery, we knew we wanted it to be inspired by the world of Harry Potter. Not simply because we loved the stories, but because they taught us about courage, friendship, loyalty, imagination, and the extraordinary magic hidden within ordinary life. I painted a mural across the nursery walls and created four original paintings to complete the room.

Then we waited.

For two and a half years, the nursery remained untouched. The paintings stayed on the walls, the room stood ready, and we quietly hoped that one day it would be filled with laughter instead of silence.

Eventually, that day came.

If you're familiar with Harry Potter, you'll know that a Patronus is a powerful charm, strengthened by our happiest memories, that protects against Dementors. When we imagined what Sadie's Patronus would be, the answer was immediate.

Baron.

He had always been her protector in our hearts.

What I didn't realize when I painted this, however, was that long before he became Sadie's Patronus, he would become mine.

During the years we waited to become parents, Baron was my constant companion. Through every setback, every disappointment, and every quiet moment of wondering what the future would hold, he reminded me to keep moving forward. His unwavering loyalty, joyful spirit, and unconditional love became a light during one of the hardest seasons of my life. In many ways, he became my Patronus—proof that love is stronger than fear and that hope is always worth holding onto.

Today, this painting hangs beside the crib of the little girl we spent so long dreaming about. It reminds me that hope often asks us to wait longer than we'd planned—but sometimes the most beautiful stories are the ones worth waiting for.
