For sixteen years, Mercer was a constant presence in the lives of the family who loved her. She watched children grow from carefree afternoons in the yard to college graduations, engagements, and the beginning of lives of their own.
Through every changing season, Mercer remained exactly where she had always been—waiting at the door, following familiar footsteps, and reminding everyone that home was never quite the same without her.
As she grew older, Mercer slowly lost her hearing, but she never lost her adventurous spirit. It became a familiar family joke that while her owner worked in the yard, Mercer would quietly wander off to explore the neighborhood, blissfully unaware that anyone was calling her name. She loved all people (except for the neighborhood unicyclist) and had a drive to seek out anyone with gentle pets or treats.
This portrait celebrates more than a faithful companion. It honors the quiet privilege of growing older together and the extraordinary role our pets play in marking the chapters of our lives. Long after the milestones have passed, it is often the memory of a familiar face waiting faithfully beside us that feels most like home.
